Our Story

It started with a bench. Not ours. A pretty one, from a big online store, that looked incredible in the photo and started wobbling in month four. Underneath the fabric: thin pine, MDF, a veneer doing its best impression of oak. That's the frustration that built this brand. You shouldn't have to choose between furniture you can afford and furniture that survives your family.

The easy fix would have been to spend more and charge more. We tried that. It just made the same problem expensive. So we went the other direction and got specific about where the money goes. Solid rubberwood and acacia instead of particle board. English dovetail drawers instead of glue and hope. Iron and stainless frames under the velvet. Performance fabrics that shrug off a spilled glass of red. Then we cut the fuss everywhere else: fewer parts, clearer instructions, most pieces together in five minutes with a screwdriver.

What we didn't cut was the part you touch. Boucle with real texture. Velvet with weight to it. Cushion straps threaded through pre-drilled holes so the seat stays where you put it. Our favorite review isn't about the styling. It's the customer who wrote: "No plastic, no MDF, no thin pine, no faux wood." That's the whole brief, in one sentence, from someone who noticed.

Today Maklaine makes dining chairs, benches, sofas, beds, nightstands and coffee tables in neutral colors and confident shapes, so a piece bought this year still works with the room you'll have in five.
